Traditional Liposuction vs Laser Lipo Plus
By now, most people considering liposuction who come to my Dayton cosmetic surgery practice for consultation already understand what liposuction is: removal of fat via suction through a tube (cannula) to obtain a more attractive body. Liposuction can be performed on many parts of the body including the hips, thighs, tummy, love handles, back, bottom, knees, chin, neck and it’s one of the top procedures requested by patients nationwide. What they often don’t know is that there’s more than one type of liposuction. Do you know what they are and which one might be right for your specific needs?
Traditional tumescent liposuction is the standard, tried-and-true, liposuction technique that’s been used for many years. It involves tiny incisions in the area to be treated through which a solution of sterile salt water and local anesthetic (Lidocaine) is inserted. The solution allows easier removal of fat, and the anesthetic Lidocaine both numbs the area and reduces blood loss, swelling and bruising. The fluid is suctioned out with the fat through a thin tube, called a cannula, which is attached to a machine that provides the suction. Tumescent liposuction can give Dayton liposuction patients an excellent result. The only drawback is that traditional tumescent liposuction does not tighten the skin after the fat has been removed. This can result in an unattractive appearance in patients who have loose skin.
Laser Lipo Plus is my unique laser technique that combines tumescent liposuction with a specific cannula and a laser to simultaneously remove fat and tighten skin. Through the use of a Blugerman cannula (which has raised projections on its tip similar to those of a cheese grater) stimulation of the skin occurs which, after the procedure, prompts skin tightening. At the end of the procedure, use of an MTS roller device further stimulates skin contraction. This method not only gives liposuction patients tighter skin post-procedure, it is also an effective treatment for cellulite, and can treat uneven results that can occur after liposuction.
